After several years of waiting and watching we finally got new music from Mr. Justin Timberlake. After the amazingly critical success of his 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds, it appeared Justin would go on a short hiatus from music. I remember just a few months ago, out of the blue, wondering if he would ever make music again, I honestly didn't know because the guy never wanted to talk about it, and then in January a short video was released of Justin walking around a studio with his voice over talking about how he wants to make the best music he can. The video would end with him walking up to a microphone while he puts on headphones. Needless to say I was excited, and about two months later on March 19th, 2013 he released The 20/20 Experience. By far his best work yet, and that's coming from a guy who would put FutureSex/LoveSounds in his top ten favorite albums of all time (that list will be coming soon). The 20/20 Experience returns us to the groovy, poppy, sounds that we heard from FutureSex/LoveSounds, with the addition of some more classic R&B tones and influences that I personal was pleasantly surprised to hear. He also returns with his partner in crime Timbaland as a producer and occasional vocalist. I think we have to give a huge thanks to Timbaland because I don't think this album or FutureSex would have been half of what they are if Justin and Timbaland had not combined their artistic visions to create the perfection that these records are. The 20/20 Experience is only a short ten songs, but the album totals to be over an hour long. Each song is an average of seven minutes long, I think this allowed Justin to create what he really wanted; not just an album, but an experience... do you see what I did there? The songs are not just radio single after radio single. They are stories about life, love, and living. Justin delivers a knock out and gets a confident four star rating from yours truly.
